Abstract: |
Het laboratoire d'Écologie des Systèmes Aquatiques (ESA) richt zich op de studie en modellering van de microbiële diversiteit, structuur en werking van aquatische systemen en hun reactie op natuurlijke en antropogene veranderingen. Voor dit onderzoek worden veldwaarnemingen, studies op procesniveau onder laboratoriumgecontroleerde omstandigheden en numerieke experimenten gecombineerd. Het ESA neemt deel aan federale en Europese mariene onderzoeksprojecten over biodiversiteit, eutrofiëring en geavanceerde modellering. De belangrijkste onderzoeksthema's betreffen:
- eutrofiëring aan de kust;
- mariene biogeochemische cycli en klimaatgassen;
- bacteriële ecologie van oppervlaktewateren (inclusief microbiologische kwaliteit);
- prospectie van aquatische milieus voor bioactieve moleculen;
- microbiologische aspecten van drinkwaterproductie en -distributie.
In het algemeen verricht het ESA onderzoek naar de rol van de oceaan als buffer bij wereldwijde klimaatverandering, naar aquatische microbiële ecologie, naar eutrofiëring van kustwateren en naar toxische en schadelijke algenbloei. |
