The dredging in the Western Scheldt [Het baggerwerk in de Westerschelde]
Citation
Description
The first widening of the Western Scheldt started in 1967 with the deepening of the Bath threshold and ended in 1978 when finally the Hansweert threshold was deepened (Belmans, 1988). After this, a minimum depth of 14.5 meter below NAP could be guaranteed for the fairway. Thresholds slit up constantly, leading to continuous dredging to keep them at the desired depth. The maintenance dredging work on the thresholds encompassed an average of 8 to 9 million m3 a year from 1978 to 1989, and approximately 2 million m3 a year on the remaining areas. Scope Themes: Bottom samples (e.g. core, dredge, grab), Coastal studies (e.g. shores, estuaries) Keywords: Brackish water, Dredging, Sand, Western Scheldt estuary (The Netherlands), ANE, Netherlands, Westerschelde Geographical coverage ANE, Netherlands, Westerschelde [Marine Regions] Parameter
